Huế, an Arm Left Behind

Here, like an arm left behind
here, like an insistent prayer
a shiver crawling up the spine
searching the bell toll over

The old bridge across that river
stone saddles galloping in empty halls
intermittent life space
among those in front
here and there
A body, a naked life
travel, each turn a return
the odometer measuring your burnt
hearbeats pained through the mirror
lighting the twisted road behind

Sleeps bearing witness
of faces against fire
and drying tears
blank pieces of sunlight
not one, nor a mark questioning here

Life broken across a one-way soundpiece
dark witness, interrupting the breath half-inhaled
oh those desired shadows, dimmed, you left behind
are they still remembered, or lost, or ever existed

But, an empty space, where all fills up
the black hole of dust
those here and there
somewhere
