anew<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

we are bonded in our grief like patches on a quilt like
\n<\/span>stitches in a scarf like
\n<\/span>wood glue my father uses to glue what- i can’t remember,
\n<\/span>but i know it sticks and stays<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

i found new points of comfort but only after i tore myself away
\n<\/span>from the one source like
\n<\/span>sticky tags
\n<\/span>from plastic objects at the dollar store that don’t peel off all the way and the residue,
\n<\/span>the bits and pieces of white sticker
\n<\/span>and clear adhesive left behind,
\n<\/span>an irritating mess but still far more clean and painless than
\n<\/span>the bits and pieces torn from me like
\n<\/span>skin detached like
\n<\/span>limbs detached
\n<\/span>no white just red
\n<\/span>and red and red
\n<\/span>it hurt.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

but the grief that held me like mother with child in womb
\n<\/span>gave birth
\n<\/span>a rebirth where fresh eyes
\n<\/span>no longer wore contacts of cynicism and doubt,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

the stickers on the oranges at the grocery store peel off whole and clean and
\n<\/span>i had almost forgotten about the summers i’d spend
\n<\/span>with fresh fruit on the backyard swings- a preference over ice cream
\n<\/span>and a bodily laugh that could change the air<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

i am but i’m not yesterday’s me or last week’s me or last year’s me
\n<\/span>an elastic me that’s stretched and snapped and bounced all the way<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
